Duane N. Sorensen (93) a longtime Toppenish resident passed away in Yakima on Sunday October 23, 2016. Duane was born in Genoa, NE on September 14, 1923 to Arthur and Myrtle (Larson) Sorensen. He was raised in Nebraska and moved to Salem, OR as a teenager with his family. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Campaign. He was discharged in December 1945 and married LaVerna Schuh in Vancouver on April 24, 1946. He started working at Del Monte in Salem in 1946 and transferred to Toppenish in 1967 where he worked until retiring as plant superintendent in 1980. He enjoyed building houses, playing golf at Mt. Adams Country Club where he was a member for many years, working on Faith Lutheran Church which he was a member and enjoying a cup of coffee with his friends. Duane is survived by his wife of 70 years, LaVerna of Yakima; a son, Rod (Donna) Sorensen of Selah; a daughter, Barbara (Bob) Macias of Yakima; four grandsons and a sister, Lois (Dick) Hodges of Tacoma. Visitation will be held on Friday October 28, 2016 from 1-4PM at Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Toppenish at 12PM Saturday October 29, 2016.
