Earl Barney

July 16, 1947 - July 6, 2020

Earl Barney 'Ichishpám', 72, passed away on July 6, 2020 at Tacoma General Hospital in Tacoma, WA. He was born on July 16, 1947 in Rock Creek, WA to Jessie Lena Hyipeer and John Barney. Earl was an enrolled member of the Yakama Nation and also a Vietnam Veteran for the US Army. Earl grew up and later resided on the Yakama Nation Reservation in Wapato, WA. He worked for BIA Wapato Irrigation as a Former Equipment Operator Level 2 and Legends Casino Hotel as a Facility worker until he retired. He enjoyed watching many sports, his favorite teams were, Seattle Seahawks and Mariners. He also enjoyed hunting, going to the mountains, picking huckleberries, playing in various basketball tournaments when he was younger, and spending time with family, friends, and loved ones who he shared a special bond with during many family events and gatherings. He always had a great faith and belief in God throughout his life. He had a warm compassionate smile for everyone. He is survived by his wife Lucetta Barney, his children (he shared with Delphine Barnhart) Alaric Barney (Michelle), Carissa Barney-Barnhart, Adelle Chief (Christopher), Rochelle Barney, Jacob Wolftail (Joleen) and stepsons Eddie Dick and Shannon Charles. His grandchildren Calvin Barnhart, Daniel Barney, Claudene and Cassie Wolftail, Jonah George, Kiutus S., and Noelani S. Great grandchildren Liam Alfaro-Barnhart and Messiah Barnhart. His brothers Casey Barney and Arnold Barney (Ora); sisters Josephine Barney, Delores Barney, and Shirley Barney; and close niece Marlene Contreras (Noe). Plus many more extended family members. He was blessed with many family and friends and was loved by us all. He was preceded in death by his mother Jessie Lena Hyipeer-Barney, father John Barney, sisters Christine and Edna Barney, and granddaughter Chandra Barney. July 10, 2020, Burial will be at Blackwolf Cemetery in Rock Creek, WA at 11 am.
