In Loving Memory of Lynn Marie LeDuc Squeochs July 11, 1954 – August 17, 2026 With profound sadness and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Lynn Marie LeDuc Squeochs, a devoted mother, grandmother, rancher, public servant, mentor, and proud Yakama woman whose legacy will live on through the generations she nurtured and inspired. Lynn was born on July 11, 1954, in San Diego, California, to Geraldine "Mitzi" LeDuc and Claude Oliver "Bud" LeDuc. Following Bud's service in the United States Navy, the family returned home to the Lower Yakima Valley, where Lynn was raised in Wapato among the close-knit families of the Toppenish Creek area. Growing up surrounded by ranching, farming, and the beauty of the Yakama homeland, she developed a deep love for the land, family, and the traditions that would guide her throughout her life. Though she often described herself as an introvert, Lynn possessed a remarkable gift for storytelling. She delighted in sharing memories of family, friends, and life on the ranch with her children and grandchildren, preserving the stories and values of those who came before her. During her years at Wapato High School, Lynn excelled in track and field, where her determination, competitive spirit, and strong work ethic became evident at an early age. She graduated in 1972 and remained proud of the friendships and experiences she gained during those formative years. Along with her love of the outdoors, Lynn developed a lifelong passion for music. Whether at rodeos, community gatherings, family celebrations, or local dances, she rarely passed up an opportunity to enjoy a live band. Nothing brought a bigger smile to her face than good music, good company, and a chance to dance with family and friends. After graduating from Wapato High School in 1972, Lynn moved to Yakima and lived with her grandparents, Nellie and O.J. LeDuc, while attending Yakima Business College. Upon earning her degree, she accepted a position with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Toppenish, Washington, beginning what would become an extraordinary 44-year career of service. Throughout her decades at the Yakama Agency, Lynn became renowned for her unparalleled knowledge of Yakama Nation lands, water resources, projects, and history. Many described her as a "walking encyclopedia," and countless colleagues, tribal leaders, and community members relied upon her wisdom, experience, and institutional knowledge. Beyond her expertise, she was respected for her kindness and generosity. There was always a chair available in Lynn's office for anyone who needed guidance, encouragement, or simply someone willing to listen. In 1976, while working at the Yakama Agency, Lynn met Moses Dick Squeochs Jr. What began as a workplace friendship blossomed into a remarkable partnership that spanned 35 years of marriage. Together they built a life rooted in love, family, and service. They shared countless adventures, from rodeos and ranch work to fishing trips, mountain excursions, and visits to the coast. They also shared a love of music and dancing, spending many memorable evenings enjoying live bands and celebrating with family and friends. Above all, they shared an unwavering commitment to raising their family and serving their community. Lynn and Moses raised two children, Jonalee and Graysen, instilling in them the values of hard work, integrity, education, and cultural pride. Through their guidance and encouragement, both children pursued higher education and dedicated their professional lives to serving the Yakama Nation. Lynn beamed with pride as she watched her children grow into leaders within their respective fields. Following the passing of Moses in October 2011, Lynn carried forward the responsibilities they had shared together. She remained the steady center of her family, continuing the traditions she loved and maintaining the family's cattle operation outside Granger. Of all her accomplishments, the role she treasured most was that of mother and grandmother. Her home was a place of warmth, comfort, laughter, and good food. Lynn expressed love through cooking, a lifelong passion. Family and friends knew they were in for a treat when settling in at her table. Her kitchen was often filled with the sounds of her favorite cooking shows and the aromas of dishes prepared with care and affection. Countless family gatherings were made special by the meals she lovingly prepared and the memories created around her table. Lynn's greatest joy came from her grandchildren. Since their births, she was a constant presence in the lives of Remington and Sahalie, helping raise them and sharing with them the traditions, teachings, and stories of their people. In many ways, she served as both teacher and grandmother, ensuring that they understood the importance of family, culture, and connection to the land. Whether feeding cattle in the pasture, heading up to the hills, fishing with loved ones, listening to music, dancing, sharing stories around the table, or caring for the people she loved, Lynn embodied the values of generosity, perseverance, humility, and devotion. The lessons she taught through her example will continue to guide her family for generations to come. Lynn is survived by her father, Claude Oliver "Bud" LeDuc; her brother, Bud "Buddy" LeDuc Jr.; her children, Jonalee (Jennifer) and Graysen (Danielle); her beloved grandchildren, Sahalie, Remington, Jake, Lauren, Cassandra, Jonni, and Josh; and numerous extended family members, friends, colleagues, and community members whose lives were enriched by her presence. She was preceded in death by her mother, Geraldine "Mitzi" LeDuc; her husband, Moses Dick Squeochs Jr.; grandparents Douglas Lewis Foster and Marie Korter-Wolfe Foster, and Oliver Joseph "O.J." and Claudia Lee LeDuc; aunts Verna Mullinnex and Wilma "Billie" Meluskey; and her stepson, Lester Spencer. Lynn leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured by years alone. It lives in the family she cherished, the knowledge she shared, the traditions she preserved, the people she mentored, and the land she loved. Her family takes comfort in knowing that her teachings, stories, laughter, love of music, and devotion to family will continue to live on in every gathering, every meal shared, every child taught, every song danced to, and every pasture crossed. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed, but the love, strength, and wisdom she shared will remain in our hearts and guide us for generations to come.
